About the Role
Aptitude, JE Dunn’s strategic partner for technology integration services, focuses on meeting the complex demands of modern building projects. The Aptitude Superintendent 2 will manage and execute more complex projects related to intelligent integration, overseeing Aptitude Intelligent trade partners, construction sequencing, and project goals to ensure timely and profitable completion. This position requires 100% travel, with project assignments and locations determined post-hire. Travel incentives are available.
Responsibilities
- Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Manages client and project team communication and issue escalation for low voltage scopes of work.
- Coordinates technology-related design and construction efforts to meet constructability, quality, financial, and technical standards.
- Oversees company staff, low voltage technology subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO for small projects or major portions of larger projects.
- Develops work plans for low voltage technology subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Manages the care, custody, and control of assigned low voltage scope of work.
- Creates, manages, and adjusts the project schedule in conjunction with the Aptitude Project Manager.
- Tracks and monitors project budget and costs using project management systems.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments.
- Updates drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks; approves and records unit cost information for reports.
- Evaluates progress on self-perform work and makes adjustments as needed.
- Manages material and equipment needs for the project; assists in selecting tools and equipment for low voltage technology systems installation.
- Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate reporting of hours and cost codes.
- Coordinates with trades to ensure proper installation of low voltage technology systems infrastructure.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, setting standards, and QA/QC processes.
- Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Participates in new project pursuits and pre-planning with field operations leadership.
- Partners with leadership to establish local workforce and with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of changes.
- Prepares and presents project review meetings, including monthly reviews.
- Applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
- Leads and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manages complex projects from start to finish, assuming responsibility for scheduling, production, quality, and safety.
- Identifies and actively manages project risks for assigned scopes of work.
- Uses experience to identify problems and recommend solutions for team review.
- Participates in project pursuits and negotiations with owners and architects for project changes.
- Engages trade partners to execute scopes of work.
- Applies knowledge of Low Voltage Systems Connections to daily project deliverables.
- Configures and programs project-to-project software for testing and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (Preferred). Relevant experience may substitute for education.
- 5+ years of construction experience (Required).
- 5+ years of experience in Division 8/23/25/27/28 related systems (Required).
- 3+ years of field supervision experience (Required).
- 5+ years of experience managing projects (Preferred).
Skills
- Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
- Thorough understanding of low voltage technology systems, including structured cabling, access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, audio-visual, building automation, nurse call, infant security, RTLS, phone systems, and network electronics.
- Ability to work across multiple vertical markets.
- Extensive knowledge of Low Voltage Systems Connections.
- Ability to configure and program project-to-project software for testing and troubleshooting.
- Intermediate communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to conduct effective presentations.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of construction management fundamentals and project processes.
- Proficiency in JE Dunn construction technology and Lean process philosophy.
- Intermediate knowledge of specific trades and low voltage scopes of work.
- Demonstrated knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity.
- Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and build relationships for future work.
- Intermediate knowledge of Div 8/23/25/27/28 low voltage systems.
- Basic understanding of blueprint drawings and document changes.
- Ability to understand the impact of changes on project schedules.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Working Environment
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May require periods of travel and/or relocation.
- May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
- Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
- Frequent activities: Standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
- Occasional activities: Sitting, viewing computer screen.
