Aptitude, JE Dunn’s strategic partner for technology integration services, is seeking a Safety Specialist 1 to coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects in support of the company’s strategy, vision, and values.

About the role

The Safety Specialist 1 conducts safety inspections, identifies and documents hazardous conditions, and writes reports. This position follows directions and refers exceptions to a supervisor, with a career path leading to Safety Specialist 2.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
  • Perform safety audits, identifying, documenting, and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions for internal and external clients.
  • Use internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
  • Conduct project-specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs.
  • Attend project pre-planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
  • Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees, and related activities, including chairing the project safety committee.
  • Assist in investigating project-related accidents, determining root causes, and recommending process changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work at some capacity.
  • Compile progress summary reports of injuries for supervisors.
  • Monitor the site safety incentive program.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
  • Proficiency in required construction technology.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health-related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • 0-2 years of construction or related experience (required).
