Aptitude, JE Dunn’s strategic partner for technology integration services, is seeking a Safety Specialist 1 to coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects in support of the company’s strategy, vision, and values.
About the role
The Safety Specialist 1 conducts safety inspections, identifies and documents hazardous conditions, and writes reports. This position follows directions and refers exceptions to a supervisor, with a career path leading to Safety Specialist 2.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
- Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
- Perform safety audits, identifying, documenting, and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions for internal and external clients.
- Use internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
- Conduct project-specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
- Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs.
- Attend project pre-planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
- Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees, and related activities, including chairing the project safety committee.
- Assist in investigating project-related accidents, determining root causes, and recommending process changes to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work at some capacity.
- Compile progress summary reports of injuries for supervisors.
- Monitor the site safety incentive program.
Requirements
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
- Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
- Proficiency in required construction technology.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health-related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the degree.
- 0-2 years of construction or related experience (required).
