Join the University of New Mexico Hospital's Addiction Services and Ambulatory Program (ASAP) as a compassionate and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner preferred) to provide high-quality outpatient care to adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. Work alongside an interdisciplinary team committed to evidence-based addiction treatment and patient-centered care.

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will deliver comprehensive addiction and behavioral health services for adult patients in an outpatient clinic and walk-in care setting. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, managing medications, providing follow-up care, and coordinating services that support recovery and long-term wellness.

Schedule

  • 0.75 FTE (three 10-hour shifts per week)
  • Day shift schedule
  • No call responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric and substance use evaluations for adult patients
  • Diagnose and treat substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Provide medication management, including medications for addiction treatment (MAT)
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and the care team
  • Monitor treatment progress and adjust care plans as clinically indicated
  • Coordinate care with therapists, case managers, social workers, primary care providers, and community resources
  • Document patient encounters in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute
  • Prescribe and distribute all drugs, including controlled substances
  • Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plans with patients and families
  • Provide accurate documentation of patient care, orders, directives, procedures, and patient responses
  • Educate patients and families about preventative care, medical issues, and prescribed treatments
  • Work as a team member with medical, nursing, and counseling staff to provide comprehensive care
  • Guide, teach, and support nursing and medical staff as a clinical resource
  • Act as a role model for advanced practice professions and precept students
  • Support research by conducting or participating in research studies and incorporating findings into clinical practice
  • Enhance professional growth through educational programs, literature, in-services, meetings, and workshops
  • Follow and improve patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Identify and report environmental conditions or situations that may put patients at risk
  • Report patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their care by asking questions and reporting concerns

Requirements

  • Graduate of an advanced nurse or clinical nurse specialist program
  • 1 year of psychiatric experience
  • NM Advanced Practice Nurse License (CNP, CNS, CRNA)
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS or PALS (as applicable) within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to perform medium work: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently

Preferred qualifications: Bilingual in English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo; Bilingual English/Spanish; specialization in applicable area.
