APRN/PA - Peds Ortho

About the role

The APRN/PA will be located at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, AR, assisting Orthopaedic Spine physicians with clinic visits, procedures, operating-room support, inpatient rounding, and after-hours call for urgent/emergent orthopedic conditions (including fracture reductions in the ED).

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document relevant health and medical history; perform focused and comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and care plans that include diagnostic tests, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, patient/family education, and referrals.
  • Consult with physicians and other health professionals as needed.
  • Follow up with patients via phone, rounds, scheduled visits, and lab results.
  • Facilitate patient self-care and shared decision-making.
  • Promote preventive health and participate in clinical pathway development and quality-management activities.
  • Participate in team conferences, department meetings, and clinical case reviews.
  • Document care and billing notations accurately.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (cast application/removal, wound suturing, dressing changes).
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, and anticipated effects to patients.
  • Prepare patient workups, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Participate in basic-science and clinical research projects.
  • Participate in the Orthopaedic after-hours call rotation.

Requirements

APRN:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in acute care.

PA:

  • Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program or eligible as defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board.
  • Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license or eligible for licensure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
