APRN / PA INPATIENT - PEDIATRIC NEUROSURGERY

Responsibilities

• Manage pre- and post-operative care, consults, and daily rounding.
• Participate in patient and family education and care coordination.
• Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans within the scope of practice protocols.
• Perform patient history and physical exams for procedures or admissions; document findings.
• Complete admitting orders, daily rounds, consultations, discharge summaries, transfers, medication management, and other orders for patient care.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Order and interpret diagnostic procedures and tests; explain their necessity to patients and families.
• Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plans with patients and families as needed.
• Provide education on preventative care, medical issues, and prescribed treatments.
• Ensure accurate documentation of patient care, orders, procedures, and responses in the medical record.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing, and counseling staff to provide comprehensive, continuous care.
• Guide, teach, and support nursing and medical staff as a clinical resource.
• Act as a role model through professional conduct, communication, leadership, and ethical decision-making.
• Support research by conducting or participating in studies and incorporating findings into clinical practice.
• Enhance professional growth through educational programs, literature, and workshops.
• Follow and improve patient safety policies, identify risks, and report concerns.
• Encourage patients and families to actively participate in their care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience; 3 years preferred.
• Specialization in the applicable area is a plus.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is nonessential but beneficial.

Qualifications

• Current CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
• Advanced Practice RN or Physician Assistant license with NCCPA certification (if applicable).
• Pediatric Nursing Certification as applicable.
• ACLS or PALS certification within 30 days of hire (as applicable).
• Prescriptive Authority from the State of New Mexico.
• State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification.

Physical Conditions

• Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
• Working conditions involve exposure to hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials; PPE required.
• Tuberculosis testing completed upon hire and as required thereafter.
