Position Summary
Aids physicians in patient care and education. Manages patient care, triage, and documentation.
Key Performance Areas
- Assesses physical and psychosocial status of patients
- Writes prescriptions for medications, blood products, and other treatments
- Determines eligibility for clinical trials
- Interprets and evaluates test results
- Communicates patient care updates to physicians
- Manages family dynamics and coping mechanisms
- Participates in multi-disciplinary rounds
- Triage patients based on urgency
- Documents and reports care accurately and promptly
- Provides on-call coverage and performs hospital rounds
- Trains new employees
Position Qualifications/Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program
- Master’s degree required
- APRN or PA license in appropriate state
- Prescriptive privileges or eligibility to apply
- Current certification from ANCC or ONS (AOCN-P)
- Current BLS
- Minimum 5 years experience as APRN or PA, specifically in Oncology
