About the role

The Advanced Practice Nurse position provides direct patient care through comprehensive patient assessment, planning, treatment, evaluation, and patient, family, and staff education. Care of patients takes place under physician supervision. The Advanced Practice Nurse is authorized to prescribe and dispense medication when granted authority in accordance with Arkansas licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
• Affords preventative, minimizes, and manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel.
• Evaluates health care provided and modifies care as needed (under the supervision of a physician if medical acts are required).
• Offers psychological support to patients and families.
• Facilitates use of CARTI resources.
• Schedules consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, future appointments for patients in coordination with the attending physician.
• Provides health education to the patient and his/her family (i.e., management of side effects, anticipatory teaching).
• Participates in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals.
• Provides consultation to colleagues and allied personnel.
• Collaborates with medical, nursing and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow up and evaluation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in continuing education/training activities including monthly online training.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff.
• Ensure that supplies and equipment are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
• Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment according to specific product information.
• Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
• Assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
• Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.
• Identify yourself in a pleasant and positive manner.
• Take responsibility for helping the caller.
• Aid in the orientation/training for new colleagues.
• Aid in the performance of other colleagues' assignments.
• Seek out opportunities to help rather than waiting to be asked.
• Consider the impact of your actions on colleagues throughout CARTI.
• Take initiative to redo inadequate or incomplete work, even if it is not yours.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of the company (education, organizing, housekeeping, assisting others).
• Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames.
• Take initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.
• Adhere to Administrative and departmental policies.
• Ensure that the company is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner by adhering to CARTI policies as documented in the CARTI Handbook.
• Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
• Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.
• Adhere to company-wide service standards as evidenced by observation and feedback from patients, family members, and other clients.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctorate prepared as a Nurse Practitioner (NP).
• Possession of a valid Arkansas license as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner in an adult-focused area of specialization (e.g., Adult-Gerontology, Family Nurse Practitioner) by an approved national certifying body (such as ANCC or AANP).
• A current, or be eligible for, a DEA license.
• Certificate of Prescriptive Authority.
• BLS Certified (ACLS Optional).

Skills & Knowledge

• At least two years of Oncology experience preferred.
• Knowledge in medical claim billing preferred.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
