This position is within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida. The Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will function autonomously as part of a clinical team, managing the complete care of children and young people while complementing other professionals to deliver high-quality service.

About the role

The role involves using clinical judgment and autonomous decision-making for patient assessment, diagnosis, and management, including a range of clinical actions based on patient needs and care requirements.

Responsibilities

• Clinical (90%):
  • Performs professional care as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant according to established standards, practices, and protocols, in compliance with the Florida Practice Act for Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
  • Conducts initial patient assessments, including history and physical examinations.
  • Provides clinical teaching for Master of Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students.
• Administrative (10%):
  • Handles clinical administrative duties such as closing encounters, patient correspondence, and other clinical tasks.
  • Reports to a Chair or higher-level administrator within the State university system.
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, academic advising, and related administrative activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department.

Requirements

• Minimum:
  • Master’s or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field, qualified to perform assigned duties.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
  • Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.
• Preferred:
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in a Pediatrics facility.
  • Spanish or Haitian Creole language proficiency.
