APRN INPATIENT - PSYCHIATRY

We are seeking an Advanced Practice medical provider (FNP, PA, AG-ACNP) for our inpatient hospitalist team. This role provides medical service for admitted adult patients 5 days a week, with potential expansion to weekends. There is also an opportunity to have clinic time in our primary care clinic that services our adult psychiatric population.

About the Role

Function in an inpatient/urgent care area as an advanced practice provider, serving as practitioner, mentor, consultant, educator, researcher, and manager. Establish goals and priorities in accordance with patient and staff needs and organizational objectives. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans; implement, follow up, and evaluate patient care within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute.
• Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal results.
• Complete admitting orders, daily rounds, consultations with nurses and specialists, discharge summaries, transfers, medication management, and other orders required for patient care.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic procedures and tests; explain their necessity, nature, and anticipated effects to patients and their families.
• Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plans with patients and families as needed to achieve improved health.
• Provide education for patients and families about preventative care, medical issues, and prescribed treatments.
• Provide accurate documentation of patient care, orders, directives, procedures, and patient responses in the medical record; communicate with the healthcare team and maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records.
• Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and counseling staff to provide comprehensive and continuous care.
• Guide, teach, and support nursing and medical staff as a clinical resource.
• Act as a role model for advanced practice professions, precepting nurses, other advanced practice providers, and physician assistant students.
• Demonstrate leadership through conduct, communication, mutual respect, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Support research by conducting or participating in studies and incorporating findings into clinical practice.
• Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, meetings, and workshops.
• Follow and promote patient safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by identifying opportunities for improvement in policies and processes.
• Identify and report or correct environmental conditions that may pose risks to patients.
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses in a timely manner.
• Encourage patients to actively participate in their care by asking questions and reporting concerns.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Nurse program.
• 1 year of directly related experience.
