Apprentice Mold Maker / Toolmaker
About the role
Matrix Plastic Products is looking for a motivated, hands-on Apprentice Mold Maker / Toolmaker to join our plastic injection molding team in our brand new Bloomingdale facility. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced mold makers to learn the skills of the trade while assisting in the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of precision molds and mold components used in our manufacturing operations. As an apprentice, you'll gain valuable, hands-on experience performing essential mold-making tasks and participate in a structured apprenticeship program coordinated through the Technology & Manufacturing Association (TMA), providing classroom instruction and industry-recognized training to support your career growth.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture mold components utilizing various shop equipment and perform mold maintenance/repair
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of existing molds, identifying and rectifying defects to ensure proper functionality
- Frequently move materials and mold components weighing up to 50 pounds across the manufacturing floor and work areas
- Operate hand and power tools to prepare, inspect, and position mold materials and components
- Work on molds at various heights and in confined spaces
- Communicate information and progress to supervisors and colleagues regarding mold-making tasks and issues
- Inspect mold components for accuracy and defects at close range
- Detect and identify any deviations from specifications during the mold-making process
- Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines in the performance of duties
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Mechanical aptitude
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Self-starter who can work independently
- Ability to operate shop equipment (Vertical mills and surface grinders) a plus
- Knowledge of plastic injection molds a plus

Pay
The starting rate for this position is $19/hr.
Schedule
- Full-time
- Day shift, 8-10 hour shift, Mon-Fri
Location: Bloomingdale, IL (100% on-site, in-person)
