Ameren Missouri has been providing electric and gas service for more than 100 years, with electric rates among the lowest in the nation. Our mission is to power the quality of life for our 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri. Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities, including the greater St. Louis area.

About the Role

This is a three-year apprenticeship program designed to train and advance an Apprentice Lineman to the level of Journeyman Lineman. The role involves progressive training, starting with unenergized circuits and advancing to work on energized circuits of increasing voltage under immediate supervision. The apprentice will perform duties of increasing complexity, culminating in the full range of skilled lineman tasks.

Responsibilities

• Initially, assemble line materials, hardware, or pole fixtures; climb poles and assist Linemen on services, secondaries, and unenergized conductors; perform ground work typically handled by a Lineman.
• Later, work alone on energized conductors up to 480 volts and perform less complex work on higher voltages under immediate supervision.
• Progress to performing the full range of duties of a skilled Lineman, working under the supervision of a fully skilled Lineman on voltages above 480 volts, and independently on less complex tasks.
• Prepare for and successfully complete an examination (oral, written, or practical demonstration) at the end of the apprenticeship program.
• Adhere to safety rules and use appropriate protective equipment to ensure personal safety, the safety of crew members, and the public.
• Exercise care when working with company or customer-owned equipment.
• Respond to call-outs promptly and maintain predictable, reliable attendance.
• Use initiative and judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.
• Maintain and care for vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and the public.
• Communicate effectively in writing, orally, and electronically to convey and understand job-related information.
• Interact with the public to request outages for service work, such as transferring from old to new poles.

Working Conditions

• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including working at night with inadequate artificial light, and in rain, sleet, or snow.
• Subject to storm work and emergencies at any time of day or night.
• Work in cramped or crowded positions, on slippery or uneven footing.
• Exposure to hazards of street traffic, potential burns or shocks from steam and electric mains, and risks associated with hauling heavy materials like poles.
• Minor risks of cuts, bruises, scratches, falls, or injury from falling objects, and occasional risk of cave-ins while working in trenches.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successfully pass the EEI C.A.S.T. Test or its equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class A CDL.
• Must be punctual, have reliable attendance, and possess a positive attitude.

Pay

• Grade Step IA 056 Step 1 of 3: $42.63 USD per hour
• Grade Step IA 056 Step 2 of 3: $45.46 USD per hour
• Grade Step IA 056 Step 3 of 3 (Top Step): $49.33 USD per hour

Position is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance, subject to management discretion.
