About the role
The Service Apprentice reports to the Area Service Manager and assists in a range of refrigeration/HVAC jobs for industrial and commercial customers. This role requires decisiveness, tact, dependability, initiative, and strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers, technicians, managers, and coordinators. Job-related contact spans diverse demographic groups, primarily service customers, Capstone Mechanical technicians, the Area Service Manager, and the Field Service Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Service Department team to conduct HVACR servicing jobs promptly.
- Perform routine HVACR service activities with direct oversight or on-site assistance.
- Assist in installation, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting specialized refrigeration equipment.
- Assist in brazing and soldering refrigerant lines.
- Assist in charging and checking equipment refrigerant levels.
- Perform pre-startup checks on equipment and make necessary adjustments.
- Perform related duties as directed by the Area Service Manager.
Qualifications
- High school graduate and/or enrolled in a post-secondary HVACR program of two or more years.
- Good verbal and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply manufacturers' instructions and communicate clearly with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Physical ability to perform duties under varying conditions, including extreme weather.
- Interest and initiative in advancing HVACR skills through self-study, company training, manufacturers' workshops, and professional development.
- Current Texas operator's license and ability to operate all vehicles in the corporate fleet within 30 days of employment; must be insurable under Capstone Mechanical’s insurance policy.
- Ability to work under time pressures, non-standard schedules, weather constraints, customer needs, and backlog.
- Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex HVACR issues.
- Continuous, concentrated mental and visual effort to plan and perform complex work.
- Maintain a valid TDLR card and possess a valid EPA card.
