Apprentice HVAC Service Technician

About the role

The Service Apprentice reports to the Area Service Manager and assists in a range of refrigeration/HVAC jobs for industrial and commercial customers. This role requires decisiveness, tact, dependability, initiative, and strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers, technicians, managers, and coordinators. Job-related contact spans diverse demographic groups, primarily service customers, Capstone Mechanical technicians, the Area Service Manager, and the Field Service Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Service Department team to conduct HVACR servicing jobs promptly.
  • Perform routine HVACR service activities with direct oversight or on-site assistance.
  • Assist in installation, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting specialized refrigeration equipment.
  • Assist in brazing and soldering refrigerant lines.
  • Assist in charging and checking equipment refrigerant levels.
  • Perform pre-startup checks on equipment and make necessary adjustments.
  • Perform related duties as directed by the Area Service Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate and/or enrolled in a post-secondary HVACR program of two or more years.
  • Good verbal and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply manufacturers' instructions and communicate clearly with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Physical ability to perform duties under varying conditions, including extreme weather.
  • Interest and initiative in advancing HVACR skills through self-study, company training, manufacturers' workshops, and professional development.
  • Current Texas operator's license and ability to operate all vehicles in the corporate fleet within 30 days of employment; must be insurable under Capstone Mechanical’s insurance policy.
  • Ability to work under time pressures, non-standard schedules, weather constraints, customer needs, and backlog.
  • Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex HVACR issues.
  • Continuous, concentrated mental and visual effort to plan and perform complex work.
  • Maintain a valid TDLR card and possess a valid EPA card.
