Safety
Safely sends every employee home every day. Promotes and manages safety at Western States. Adheres to safety policies, procedures, and standards. Completes Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) before tasks.
Essential Functions
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment under supervision.
- Perform preventative maintenance on engines and powertrain.
- Understand and assist with basic electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, and cab systems.
- Assist with undercarriage tasks as supervised.
- Participate in continuing education and training.
Continued Development
- Utilize service manuals for addressing technical issues.
- Write and read service reports.
- Address inquiries promptly and professionally.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
- Basic computer/typing skills.
- Job-related certifications for specialties like forklifts, rigging, and overhead cranes.
- Developing knowledge of manufacturer-specific software (SIS, ET, STW).
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work overtime and adapt to changing schedules.
- Physical characteristics to handle lifting, bending, and repetitive motions.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associates degree in diesel technology, trade school diploma, or one-year equivalent experience in Caterpillar or similar environments.
- Hydraulic, engine, and powertrain experience required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Appropriate technician-level tooling required.
- Must communicate in English.
Physical Characteristics
- Standing for long periods, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning, twisting.
- Lifting up to 60 lbs., carrying up to 20 lbs., ascending/descending stairs and ladders.
- Generating 97 ft./lbs. of force.
