Apprentice Engineer
Responsibilities
Affords assistance to Stationary Engineers in ensuring adequate HVAC systems and equipment maintenance for museum facilities and other properties.
Maintains museum vehicles, grounds, and special projects.
Reviews daily equipment logs for accuracy.
Completes assigned work orders promptly.
Escorts E&F contractors to work sites on MFAH properties and supervises their activities.
Participates in installation and de-installation of exhibitions under the guidance of Curatorial, Preparations, Lighting, and Electrical teams.
Installs and de-installs exhibition banners.
Assists in setting up and breaking down exhibition-related equipment for events.
Supports the Retail shop's installation and de-installation of rotating exhibitions.
Operates various aerial lifts and fork lifts to complete tasks.
Drives cargo van, box truck, and pickup truck to and from work sites.
Protects museum properties during natural disasters by responding to emergency calls.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
Basic knowledge of A/C, heating, boilers, chillers, air handling units, electrical, plumbing, and auxiliary equipment.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime.
Ability to respond to emergency calls when off-duty.
Able to lift 75 pounds, work bending and stooping, and climb a ladder.
Valid Texas driver license and good driving record.
Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous maintenance experience, including work with boilers, chillers, electrical, plumbing, or other mechanical equipment, preferred.
