Role Overview

Apprentice Deconstruction Workers are foundational members of CO Adaptive's Build team. This apprentice-level role is designed for individuals eager to learn and grow. Apprentices support the careful dismantling of building components and the organized handling, cataloging, and preparation of salvaged materials. Apprentices work under the direct supervision of a qualified Deconstruction Worker and receive ongoing on-the-job training and structured instruction.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite, including tools, materials, trash containment, and daily site closure
  • Follow all safety protocols and consistently implement best safety practices
  • Auxiliary deconstruction support, including dismantling and removal of building components under direction from a Deconstruction Worker or supervisor
  • Waste stream management, sorting, and responsible handling of materials
  • Organize, clean, catalog, pack, and prepare materials for transport
  • Load and unload materials into/from trucks and containers

Learning + Development

  • Follow written procedures, protocols, and jobsite standards
  • Ask questions and demonstrate curiosity about best practices and improved processes
  • Begin learning to read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications under supervision
  • Seek guidance, accept feedback, and take initiative on tasks appropriate to skill level

Culture + Collaboration

  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative jobsite environment
  • Work cooperatively with teammates, supervisors, and trade partners

Training + Supervision

  • Apprentices work under the direct supervision of a qualified Deconstruction Worker at all times
  • On-the-job training is supplemented with scheduled related instruction provided by CO Adaptive

Reporting + Collaboration

  • Keep informed and coordinate with: Fabrication + Deconstruction Lead and Deconstruction Workers
  • Keep informed and seek high-level decisions from: Fabrication + Deconstruction Lead

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to listen, ask clarifying questions, and communicate respectfully
  • Openness to learning, taking feedback, and building technical skills
  • Commitment to safety and consistent use of PPE and protocols
  • Dedication to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and equitable jobsite
  • Alignment with CO Adaptive's core values and willingness to grow within the practice
  • OSHA 40 certification preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance
  • Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work on ladders or scaffolding for extended periods
  • Comfort working in varying weather conditions
  • Manual dexterity for tool use, material handling, and detailed deconstruction work

Benefits

  • Hourly rate range: $24.00/hr - $33.00/hr commensurate with experience and trade proficiency
  • Supplemental hourly benefit rate range: $15.00/hr

Potential Transition to Permanent Position

This position is being hired as a temporary full-time role, with the potential to transition to a permanent position based on workload, project pipeline, and overall business needs. Temporary employees are paid at a higher hourly rate in lieu of benefits. If the position transitions to permanent employment and the employee remains employed beyond 60 days, compensation may be adjusted to reflect eligibility for CO Adaptive's benefits package and other employment benefits.

For Permanent Full-Time Employees

  • Full-time employment with CO Adaptive includes 13 days of paid time off during your first year, which may be used at your discretion, in addition to company holidays.
  • Employees receive two additional PTO days for each subsequent year of employment, along with 5 paid sick days annually.
  • After 60 days, employees are eligible for a comprehensive healthcare package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage. CO Adaptive contributes $600 per month toward the health plan of your choice.
  • We also invest in professional growth by providing an annual professional development allowance of up to $1,000 and up to 5 paid days per year for training and educational opportunities.
  • After 6 months of employment, employees are eligible to participate in our 401(k) plan, which includes employer matching contributions of 100% on the first 3% of compensation and 50% on the next 2%.
