Applied Scientist II, SCOT OSS - Sourcing Execution & Performance

About the role

The Optimal Sourcing Systems (OSS) team within Amazon Global Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) is seeking an Applied Scientist II to join our dynamic team. OSS designs and builds systems that measure and manage Amazon’s supplier capabilities, identify and react to supply disruptions, and prioritize inbound freight for our global network.

Responsibilities

• Build solutions to enable collaborative inventory planning with vendors through agent to agent collaboration or humans-in-the-loop collaborative methods
• Leverage and develop agentic GenAI workflows to automate the end-to-end vendor coaching and evaluation
• Drive the full development cycle from whiteboarding new algorithmic approaches to production-scale deployments
• Collaborate with SDEs to build high-performance, distributed training and inference pipelines; translate complex scientific concepts into scalable, production-grade code

Requirements

• Thrive in ambiguous problem spaces, relish working with large volumes of data, and enjoy the challenge of highly complex supply chain contexts
• Deep understanding about machine learning/reinforcement learning/GenAI models, enjoy and excel at diving into data to analyze root causes, and implementing long term solutions
• Translate complex business logic into scalable models and communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications

• 3+ years of building models for business applications experience
• PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
• Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Unix/Linux
• Experience in professional software development
