About the role

We are looking for passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientists with a strong machine learning background to help build industry-leading Conversational AI Systems. Our mission is to provide a delightful experience to Amazon’s customers by pushing the envelope in Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Dialog Systems including Generative AI with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Applied Machine Learning (ML). You will work alongside internationally recognized experts to develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state-of-the-art in human language technology. Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form of products and services that make use of language technology.

You will gain hands-on experience with Amazon’s heterogeneous text, structured data sources, and large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in language understanding. We are hiring in all areas of human language technology: NLU, Dialog Management, Conversational AI, LLMs, and Generative AI.

The team uses generative AI and foundation models to reimagine the experience of all customers on AWS. We explore new technologies and find creative solutions. About the team

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state-of-the-art in human language technology, including NLU, Dialog Management, Conversational AI, LLMs, and Generative AI.
  • Work with generative AI and foundation models to reimagine customer experiences on AWS.
  • Explore new technologies and creative solutions to impact engineers globally.
  • Collaborate with internationally recognized experts in machine learning and AI.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML, or related field.
  • Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related language.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Unix/Linux.
  • Experience in professional software development.

Pay

USA, CA, Santa Clara - $171,600.00 - $222,200.00 USD annually.

Schedule

Hybrid work model: employees have the option to work in the office every day or in a flexible hybrid model near one of our U.S. Amazon offices.
