About the role

Join us in building innovative AI/ML services that protect our cloud from security threats. As an Applied Scientist, you'll analyze data using GenAI and other AI/ML techniques to build and deploy services that detect and automate the mitigation of cybersecurity threats across Amazon's infrastructure. You'll collaborate with software development engineers, security engineers, and fellow scientists to develop innovative security solutions at massive scale, protecting the AWS cloud for all customers.

This role offers the opportunity to drive technical innovation within threat detection and mitigation, utilizing the full power and breadth of AWS technologies such as Amazon SageMaker, Bedrock, and EMR. We seek someone passionate about using big data, machine learning, and GenAI to solve real security problems, with a high coding bar for building production-grade ML systems.

Our team culture encourages innovation and high ownership for program vision and execution. We value enthusiasm, empathy, curiosity, and reliability, and strive to amplify a positive and inclusive team environment. While most of the team is located in Maryland and Virginia, we operate in a flexible, distributed work environment with core business hours of 10:00 AM EST - 3:00 PM EST.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy AI/ML systems that process threat data at scale, running over large-scale security logs with real-time inference.
  • Expand and improve existing LLM agent pipelines for automated threat detection and response.
  • Conduct thorough data analyses and develop prototypes for detecting otherwise-unknown security problems.
  • Analyze post-mortems to understand what data signals could have prevented security incidents.
  • Build data pipelines and ETL processes to handle massive security datasets.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Experience with patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Unix/Linux.
  • Experience in professional software development.
  • Knowledge of architectural concepts and algorithms, schedule tradeoffs, and new opportunities with technical team members.
