About the role

The Applied Science Manager for Ads Impact leads the team responsible for understanding and optimizing how advertising impacts shopper engagement, advertiser value, and marketplace outcomes. This role is unique due to its focus on integrating causal and economic reasoning into AI systems that enhance the shopping experience in the evolving landscape of LLM-powered commerce.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of scientists to set the technical vision and roadmap for ads impact measurement and optimization
• Design experiments to identify causal mechanisms through which advertising drives shopper engagement, advertiser value, and marketplace outcomes
• Develop optimization algorithms that integrate these causal signals into production and business decision-making
• Partner with engineering and product teams to implement these algorithms
• Communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership through written narratives that bridge technical science with business strategy

Requirements

• Deep expertise in causal inference and experimental design
• Strong applied ML skills
• Engineering judgment to translate research into production systems
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

Qualifications

• 4+ years of applied research experience
• 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
• 3+ years of building machine learning models for business applications
• PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
• Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval, and Analytics

Skills

• Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals
• Experience in causal modeling like graphical models, causal Bayesian networks, potential outcomes, A/B testing, experiments, quasi-experiments, and data science workflows

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $183,800.00 - $248,700.00 annually.
