Responsibilities
- Partner with a cross-functional team to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions.
- Leverage a diverse stack of technologies including PyTorch, AWS UltraClusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and Vector Databases to uncover insights in vast datasets.
- Build AI foundation models throughout the development lifecycle, from design to deployment.
- Engage in cutting-edge applied research to advance AI capabilities and customer experiences.
- Communicate complex AI concepts to stakeholders to align on business goals.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields.
- Experience in Applied Research or a Master's degree in relevant fields with 4 years of experience in Applied Research.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and a track record of innovation in machine learning.
- Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and translate technical advancements into actionable business strategies.
- Strong technical skills in AI methodologies, particularly in areas like training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience with large-scale deep learning model development, including model sparsification, quantization, and parallel processing.
- Publication history in deep learning theory and practical applications, including contributions to major conferences like ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR.
- Experience in deploying large language models and optimizing their performance.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Preferred qualifications include a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields, with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP).
- At least 5 years of industrial NLP research experience.
- Multiple publications on pre-training of large language models, SSL techniques, and model pre-training optimization.
- Experience in training and optimizing large language models (10B+ parameters, 500B+ tokens).
- Expertise in model sparsification, quantization, and training parallelism.
- Knowledge of deep learning algorithmic and optimizer design.
- Experience with compiler design and fine-tuning techniques.
- Proven track record of developing and deploying large language models.
Skills
- Open-source programming languages and cloud computing platforms.
- Deep understanding of AI methodologies and foundational theories.
- Ability to design and implement AI solutions that meet business objectives.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Pay
Salaries for this role range from $262,500 to $299,600 for Applied Researcher II positions in McLean, VA, and from $286,400 to $326,800 for similar roles in New York, NY and San Jose, CA. Actual salaries may vary based on location and performance.
Schedule
This role is full-time and requires regular attendance and availability to meet project deadlines.
