The Applied Researcher I role at Capital One involves working with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions. Responsibilities

• Partner with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to develop AI products that improve customer experiences.
• Leverage technologies like PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs to analyze and interpret complex data.
• Create and refine AI foundation models across various stages of development, ensuring they meet high standards of accuracy and scalability.
• Conduct high-impact applied research to advance AI capabilities and integrate them into new customer experiences.
• Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders to align on business goals and ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields.
• Experience with large-scale deep learning model development and deployment.
• Strong understanding of AI methodologies and foundational algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
• Track record of delivering high-quality AI solutions and publications in relevant conferences.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team in applied research and innovation.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• Experience with large language model training and optimization.
• Publications in deep learning theory and applications.
• Experience with compiler design and optimization techniques.
• Expertise in model sparsification, quantization, and training parallelism.
• Knowledge of transfer learning, model adaptation, and fine-tuning techniques.

Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and others relevant to AI research.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS.
• Understanding of ethical considerations in AI development.

Pay

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location:

• Cambridge, MA: $218,700 - $249,600
