About the role

The Applied Researcher I (AI Foundations) role at Capital One involves working with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions. This includes leveraging a broad stack of technologies to uncover insights from large datasets and building foundational AI models through all stages of development.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team to develop AI-powered products that improve customer experiences.
• Leverage technologies like Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs to analyze and interpret complex data.
• Create and refine AI foundation models across various phases, from design to deployment.
• Innovate by applying cutting-edge AI research to advance customer-facing applications.
• Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders to align on business goals.

Requirements

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, or M.S. with relevant experience.
• Experience with open-source AI frameworks and cloud computing platforms.
• Knowledge of AI methodologies and experience building large deep learning models.
• Ability to lead and manage research projects independently.
• Strong technical skills in areas such as optimization, finetuning, and model compression.

Qualifications

• Track record of publishing in top-tier conferences like ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, Neurips, ICML, and ICLR.
• Experience with large-scale model training and deployment.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems creatively and effectively.

Skills

• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks like Apache Spark.
• Understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
