Applied Research Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Applied Research Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space. This role will focus on advancing applied machine learning research into production-ready capabilities that improve automated layout generation and related product functionality. The position will partner closely with infrastructure engineers to strengthen deployment workflows, model benchmarking, and system reliability. You will also help shape the technical foundation for scalable features, including lower-latency performance, cost efficiency, and support for more complex multi-level designs. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $120,000 – $145,000 annually Responsibilities Build a component layer around the layout synthesis engine with a documented API Automate model retraining into a single command with comprehensive benchmarks Manage latency and cost budgets for developed capabilities Extend existing research into advanced features like multi-story plans Collaborate with infrastructure engineers on MLOps and model deployment Mentor researchers and interns in engineering best practices Communicate work progress through written updates and detailed technical documentation Qualifications 5+ years of professional software development experience 2+ years of experience training and deploying machine learning models End-to-end model management experience, from data preparation to user deployment Fluency in Python and PyTorch, or readiness to transition from TensorFlow/Keras Familiarity with geometric or structured data such as floor plans or CAD/BIM Experience maintaining evaluation benchmarks for model changes Master's degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance Flexible paid time off (PTO) policy Meaningful maternity/paternity leave Access to disability insurance and a 401(k) plan Stipend for creating a home office Support for ongoing learning and development initiatives Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
