Applied AI Engineer

About the role

We are building a new AI lab in New York City for a leading private equity firm, one of the world's most active investors in the tech space. The lab’s mission is value creation by building AI products and embedding them directly into portfolio companies. As an Applied AI Engineer, you will identify new opportunities across the portfolio, scope AI builds, and ship production AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Work as a full-stack AI Engineer, owning every aspect of the lifecycle—from architecture and infrastructure to shipping products to customers.
• Shape how projects are delivered and products are built, driving performance and collaborating closely with C-level executives.
• Provide technical leadership across the business, focusing on end-to-end AI solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial experience in a software engineering or AI role.
• Experience working end-to-end in shipping production AI systems to customers.
• Strong engineering fundamentals (e.g., Python).
• Hands-on experience with GenAI / LLMs.
• A "build first" mentality is essential.
• Start-up experience is beneficial, as is experience in enterprise integrations.

Pay

Total compensation: $500–600k+.
