About the role
The Applications Scientist is a key member of the team, responsible for bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and practical application. They will lead the experimental design, development, and management of bioanalytical method development within Biotage's labs. They will collaborate with customers and KOLs to create sample preparation methods using biological samples for clinical, forensic, and doping analysis, utilizing Biotage products. They will also craft scientific documentation and ensure customer success through application support and training.
Responsibilities
- Scientific Content Generation
- Leading the experimental design, development, management and oversight of bioanalytical method development within our labs.
- Crafting Scientific documentation (application notes, white papers, blogs) to support sales, marketing, and customer engagement.
- Ensuring customer success through application support and training, troubleshooting and product demonstrations.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Spearheading the experimental design and development of Applications for Biotage products in line with marketing priorities.
- Cross-functional collaborations with the R&D team to influence development of new products that meet customer needs.
- Managing collaborations as assigned by market segment managers with customers.
- Company representation and Market insights
- Exhibiting strong business acumen, to pioneer innovative applications of Biotage products in bioanalysis, proteomics, lipidomics and biomarker discovery.
- Showcasing technical expertise by delivering engaging presentations, leading training sessions, and facilitating interactive workshops for Biotage at Scientific meetings and tradeshows and within internal teams.
- Leveraging scientific expertise and product knowledge to inform and aid Biotage Marketing teams develop effective marketing strategies and product positioning.
- Training and Communication
- Developing and executing impactful training sessions for customers, collaborators and sales teams demonstrating best practices and effective techniques utilizing Biotage systems and consumables.
- Collaborating closely with peers and colleagues to share insights gained from application development and research, providing actionable recommendations for the use of Biotage products in new markets and application areas.
Requirements
- Must have a Ph.D. degree in bioanalytical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in analysis of analytes in biological fluids with 2+ years of experience working with the analysis of large molecules such as oligos, biomolecules and peptides in biofluids by LC/MS/MS.
- Essential: Extensive hands-on experience with LC/MS/MS systems and practical knowledge of sample preparation for complex biological matrices, including biofluids, tissues, and food materials.
- Working knowledge of Bioanalytical, CRO, Clinical or Forensic testing workflows and experience with laboratory automation is preferred.
- Prioritized: Knowledge and experience with automation platforms and analytical tools used in omics and biomarker discovery, along with managing technical projects and lab personnel.
Qualifications and Training
- Travel – 25-50% to customer sites, other Biotage offices, and tradeshows as required by the business.
- Demonstrate innovative thinking and apply scientific concepts to develop novel methods.
- Prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment to achieve immediate and long-term business objectives.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally. Exceptional skills in working independently and collaboratively.
- Exceptional abilities in learning quickly and solving problems effectively.
- Superior skills in technical writing and oral presentation skills in English are essential. Proficiency in using PowerPoint, Word, and other software for organizing and presenting scientific content is required.
- Excellent skills in record-keeping and documentation. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
