Applications Engineering Manager - HVAC Systems
About the role
The Engineering Manager at Validated Custom Solutions (VCS) will lead a team of Support Engineers who provide critical support to the sales team. This includes validating equipment selection, pricing, submittals, and providing technical product knowledge.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership (60%): Train and develop Support Engineers, offer technical advice, and guide the team. Implement policies, practices, and standards to ensure efficient department operation. Monitor metrics, implement actions to improve performance, and identify growth opportunities. Adopt and support tools, platforms, initiatives, and programs to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Participate in the selection process for new Support Engineers. Manage annual goal setting and performance reviews.
Support Engineering (40%): Collaborate with sales engineers to understand customer requirements, assess HVAC equipment needs, and determine system requirements. Provide technical product training for sales engineers. Assist in designing HVAC systems and integrating VCS product offerings. Assist in developing scopes of work, preparing proposals and pricing. Validate equipment selections, produce final equipment submittals, and order processing of mechanical equipment. Review manufacturer acknowledgments for accuracy and correct orders as required. Continuously learn about HVAC systems and new technologies provided by manufacturers and the HVAC industry. Maintain accurate records including manufacturer product updates and improvements. Facilitate the transition from sales to operations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent training and experience in a similar field.
8+ years of HVAC support engineering experience.
1+ year of experience coaching and mentoring engineers.
Deep technical knowledge of HVAC systems and the manufacturers serving the market.
Mastery in HVAC controls for new construction, renovation/retrofit projects, and components.
Demonstrated ability to comprehend, discuss, apply, and mentor peers in new HVAC industry concepts.
Experience with construction drawings, specifications, construction schedules, and processes is a plus.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Highly organized and capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to operate independently and take ownership of tasks.
Qualifications
