Summary
The Applications Engineer, Polymer Pumps is responsible for identifying and understanding complex applications to develop solutions which best meet the customer's needs. They bridge the gap between sales, development, service and customers by offering unique perspectives and deep understanding of mechanics, polymer science, and operational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain expert level of product and application knowledge
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams on project application engineering and project management including quoting, configuring customer systems, and managing project timelines and communication
- Partner with other teams, including engineering, service, quality, and supply chain, to drive project technical success
- Resolve internal and external technical support requests or issues related to product selection, application, specification, installation, etc.
- Support the resolution of infield customer complaints via process optimization or new technology implementation
- Listen, understand and convey customer requirements to internal teams
- Support new product development and existing product improvement projects
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment and technologies to enhance existing processes
- Develop tools and/or guidelines to support internal teams' ability to identify and correctly address design risks for complex applications
- Plan and/or facilitate technical training for customers from C-suit to operators to support customer education and outside sales
- Initiate, plan, and support execution of customer driven or investigative lab trials
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field (Mechanical, Chemical, Polymer), or an Associate Degree in Engineering with 7 years relevant work experience in a technical discipline in lieu of a four-year degree
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Project Management experience with external customers
- Experience in the use of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including but not limited to: machining, welding, hard facing/cladding/coating, heat treating
- Mechanical or electrical design background
- Proficiency with CRM/Database tools
- Skilled in use of Microsoft Office software, especially Power point, Word and Excel
- Able and willing to travel 25% or more, especially during first year of training
Physical Demands
While performing the regular duties at work the employee will be required to stand, sit and move about freely in a manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
The employee will be exposed to both a standard office and manufacturing environment. This role will require travel 25% or more.
