Responsibilities
- Review customer RFQs, single-line diagrams, and project specifications to determine appropriate transformer design, ratings, and configuration
- Develop technical proposals and specification sheets in support of sales quotes, ensuring designs meet customer, utility, and regulatory requirements
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers/EPCs and internal engineering and manufacturing teams
- Evaluate technical submittals and drawings for accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability prior to order entry
- Support pre-sale technical discussions, site assessments, and customer calls to clarify application requirements (loading, environmental conditions, BIL, impedance, cooling class, etc.)
- Identify and resolve technical discrepancies between customer specifications and standard product offerings, recommending custom or modified designs when needed
- Collaborate with engineering on design reviews for non-standard or custom transformer orders
- Aid in technical training for sales and inside sales operations teams to improve quoting accuracy and customer conversations
- Support compliance with industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, IEC) and utility-specific requirements
- Provide technical input on competitive positioning, helping the sales team understand differentiators against competitor designs
- Troubleshoot post-order technical issues in coordination with engineering, quality, and customer service
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field (or equivalent industry experience)
- 3+ years of experience in transformer design, application engineering, or technical sales support - MV/HV power equipment strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of transformer fundamentals: impedance, BIL, cooling classes, loading, and electrical protection coordination
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical specifications, and customer technical requirements
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards (IEEE C57 series, ANSI, NEMA, IEC) and utility specification requirements
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both engineering and non-technical/commercial audiences
- Proficiency with CRM and/or ERP systems; CAD or design software experience a plus
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
