About the Role

We are looking for an Applications Engineer to join our team in a hybrid role based from our Houston, TX office. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Industrial Control Systems. This role will support Sales by identifying customer needs and delivering customized control systems and automation solutions. You will translate customer requirements into clear scopes of work and proposals, acting as the bridge between clients and RED Group to drive business development.

Responsibilities

  • Develops proposals and cost estimates, owning RFQ through final customer quotation.
  • Provides consulting support to understand customer needs and technical challenges.
  • Follow-up with customers on proposal requirements and expectations.
  • Supports Sales by delivering demos, running feasibility studies, building proof of concepts, preparing technical proposals, and attending customer meetings.
  • Holds internal meetings to review bid scope, resolve questions, and develop proposals.
  • Hands off won deals to Operations, ensuring bid details and customer expectations are clearly communicated to the project team.
  • Conducts site surveys/walkdowns to clarify scope and understand customer needs during the bid phase.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and deliverables, ensuring proposals accurately reflect the scope of work.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university, or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum of 2+ years in a proposal development and estimating role focused on automation systems and engineering is preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of designing and programming PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems.
  • Experienced in scheduling, cost reporting, status tracking, and project lifecycle management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Proficiency in CRM is a plus.
  • Ability to travel for on-site client visits, trade shows, and conferences required.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
