Applications Engineer

About the Role

onsemi’s PSG SJD team is seeking a highly qualified applications engineering candidate for SiC JFET products, including discrete devices, co-packaged smart power devices, and high-power modules. The role focuses on trending applications such as AI data center switch mode power conversion, circuit protections, and renewable energy. The position is located in Princeton, NJ, USA.

Responsibilities

• Support internal and external evaluation requests (electrical, thermal, mechanical) with proficient lab skills to define better SiC JFET products and improve customer support.
• Work closely with Marketing and Design teams to promote SiC JFET in various application areas, identify portfolio gaps and opportunities versus competition, and provide feedback to teams.
• Design hardware such as demoboards and reference designs, write application notes, and create design tools like design calculators and simulation models.
• Provide training and technical support to internal and external customers to enable successful adoption of SiC JFET products in power electronics.
• Review customer schematics and designs, offer troubleshooting support including onsite customer visits.
• Represent the SJD SiC JFET business in external conferences and publications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), plus 2+ years in the power semiconductors field, or a master’s degree plus 0-2+ years in the semiconductor industry.
• Ability to multi-task effectively in both individual and team environments.
• Laboratory experience with power semiconductor products (IGBT, Diode, MOSFET, etc.).
• Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Solid background in circuit analysis and power electronics.
• Proficient with lab equipment (oscilloscope, voltage/current probes, power supplies, mechanical tools).
• Strong understanding of power and thermal calculations.
• CAD experience for PCB design (Altium Designer).
• Experience developing embedded control systems.
• Experience developing software applications with NI LabVIEW.
