Applications Engineer
Role Purpose
The Applications Engineer serves as the primary technical contact for a specific customer, defining and interpreting their technical roadmap, monitoring system progress, managing projects, and defining technology and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and update Corning's technical account strategy for the customer
- Deploy Corning's current product/support portfolio to meet the customer's needs, identifying gaps not currently met
- Gauge competitor activities and status
- Manage all day-to-day technical activities at the account
- Coordinate Corning's product design-in efforts at specific customer sites
- Ensure Corning programs understand the customer's needs
- Support customer test data analysis and interpretation
- Support specific customer initiatives
- Coordinate understanding of coating and canning impacts during design-in and PPAP
- Manage PPAP/Specification at the customer level
- Coordinate System Engineering support

Experiences/Education - Required
- BS Engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, or Ceramic preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of business-related experience, desired 5 years
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Understand current and future OEM-specific engine/system designs, strategies, functionality requirements, and implications for Corning products
- Understand OEM and supply chain development processes, including series introduction
- Strong knowledge of vehicle emissions systems, including substrates, filters, physical attributes, specifications, production, and quality methods
- Familiarity with Corning systems such as CAPA, LIMS, and WWESS
- DFMEA/PFMEA experience
- Thorough understanding of design tools and services, including mounting/canning, coating effects, CAD, CAE, testing, emissions testing, and prototyping
- Established Corning (CET) network with knowledge of company structure, markets, and strategies
- General knowledge of engine and emission control technologies, trends, customer organizations, and supply chain roles/technologies
Soft Skills
- Team player with strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and project management skills
- Able to read technical drawings, solve problems, write technically, and maintain strong customer focus
- Self-starter with strong technical curiosity
Pay and Benefits
The range for this position is $96,254.00 - $132,349.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
