About the role
Under supervision of the Applications Manager, programs, sets up and operates CNC lathe, CNC vertical or horizontal mills and Haas Rotary products. The Applications Engineer 4 works with customers over the phone and in person to solve complex applications and/or machine capability problems.
Responsibilities
- Works with the service department to provide customers the highest quality customer service possible
- Performs miscellaneous duties in preparation for trade shows or machine demonstrations
- Offers expertise on Haas products and knows options and features of lathes, mills, specials, and rotaries
- Comprehensive knowledge of Haas Web Site including sales and service protected areas
- Answers applications related phone calls from dealers and customers
- May work on any/all tasks related to setting up a job on a lathe or mill from conception to an errorless machine demo (designing/building fixtures, selecting the proper tools, etc.)
- Writes advanced 5-axis (mills) and 3-axis plus sub spindle with live tool (includes Vertical Turning Center if Lathe) CNC programs utilizing advanced machine functions such as macros
- Works with Call Manager phone software and Avante System to track application related items
- Diagnosing complex programming errors and software flaws as well as mechanical flaws
- Keeps demo room and work areas clean and organized
- Employees are expected to follow instructions, procedures and to escalate any issue impacting workflow, quality, etc.
- Employees must exhibit honesty and integrity as well as demonstrate adherence to rules, procedures and policies
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a machining expert
- Can listen closely and follow directions and perform above-mentioned duties
- Can read and write advanced G-code for Fanuc controls and has good knowledge of other controls
- Offers excellent communication skills (telephone and interpersonal)
- Computer literate in M/S Office, Word, and Excel
- Must be an expert in a minimum of one CAD/CAM System
- Can create in CAD/CAM Wire-frame, Solid Model, and Program 3-axis parts (mills) and/or 2-axis (lathe)
- 20-35% travel required
- Must score a minimum of 95% on the final of the applications class
- Must score a minimum of 85% on the final of the service classes
Qualifications
- Associate's degree AA/AS/AAS from a two-year college or technical school is required, plus additional related experience, training and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years experience
Language Skills
- Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations in English
- Must be able to write analytical and/or technical reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and create instructional reference material
- Able to speak effectively before groups, customers, employees of the organization and/or the general public
Mathematical Skills
- Must have an advanced understanding of mathematical concepts including but not limited to probability, statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and/or calculus
Reasoning Ability
- Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
