About the role

The Google Cloud Consulting Professional Services team guides customers through key moments in their cloud journey to help businesses thrive. As part of this innovative team, you will help shape the future of businesses of all sizes by leveraging Google’s global network, web-scale data centers, and software infrastructure.

As an Application Modernization Engineer, you will work with customers to transform existing enterprise applications into modern, cloud-native applications. This includes reducing time to launch, increasing release frequency, reducing time to recovery, and improving failure rates. You will propose and execute modernization approaches, including code development, and deploy applications to Google Cloud Platform. Responsibilities also include application re-design, implementation, scaling, reliability, and advising on operations such as roll-outs, monitoring, and more. You will collaborate with Product Management and Product Engineering to drive excellence in Google Cloud products.

In this role, you will act as the Google Engineer for strategic Cloud customers, supporting adoption through architecture guidance, best practices, migration, implementation, troubleshooting, and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Be a trusted technical advisor to customers and solve complex software development challenges.
• Deliver modern software to Google’s customers, including creating and executing enterprise application transformation and migration strategies.
• Recommend approaches and estimated effort for application migration and modernization programs.
• Create and deliver best practice recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, and sample code.
• Travel up to 30% for in-region meetings, technical reviews, and onsite delivery activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 6 years of experience leading enterprise application portfolios and associated technologies (e.g., VMWare, OpenShift, Kubernetes).
• Experience designing cloud enterprise solutions and supporting customer projects to completion.
• Experience coding in one or more general-purpose languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go, C, or C++) including data structures, algorithms, and software design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience refactoring monolithic applications to microservices, APIs, or serverless models.
• Experience architecting, developing software, or internet-scale production-grade cloud solutions in virtualized environments such as Google Cloud Platform or other public clouds.
• Experience leading application modernization or application architecture projects.
• Experience with unit or automated testing tools.

Pay

Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US-based roles: $152,000 - $221,000 (USD) plus 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
