Application Engineering Specialist
About the role
The person hired for the position of Application Engineering Specialist will drive new applications utilizing the broad portfolio of adhesives and tapes offered by Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division (IATD) within the United States and Canada. This position will provide technical support to achieve growth and solve complex customer design challenges. Work includes engaging with customers, field sales, and marketing to provide technical expertise; including application development, creating technical information, gaining customer-specific needs & insights, and performing product and application characterization. This position will also have responsibility to partner with customers on adhesive and tape dispensing and automation projects. This lab is International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified.
Responsibilities
- Driving core and new 3M adhesive and tape products to win new bonding applications in the industrial marketplace
- Developing new application solutions aligned to customer needs
- Building a deep understanding of state-of-the-art technologies in adhesive and tape dispensing and automation
- Training customers, sales reps, and international colleagues
- Creating new application demonstration tools
- Collaborating with product development, product engineering, marketing, and field sales
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline, completed and verified prior to start, from an accredited institution
- Minimum five (5) years of laboratory, technical, or applied science experience in a private, public, government, or military environment
- At least one (1) year experience applying technical expertise in a customer-facing, field support, product development, or technical service capacity
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years of experience working with tapes and/or adhesives
- Two (2) years of experience in application engineering
- Experience with adhesive and tape dispensing, dispensing equipment and/or automation
- Experience problem solving or trouble shooting
Work location
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel
May include up to 25% Domestic.
Pay
$145,676 - $178,049 (includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible).
