Key Responsibilities
- Installs, services, and repairs stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances.
- Uses hand tools, test equipment, and follows wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Connects appliances to the power source and tests meters such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter, observes readings, and examines appliance during an operating cycle to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts.
- Disassembles appliances and examines mechanical and electrical components.
- Traces electrical circuits by following diagrams and locates shorts and grounds, uses an ohmmeter, calibrates timers’ thermostats and adjusts contact points, cleans and washes parts, and lubricates moving parts.
- Troubleshoots, services, and maintains commercial kitchen appliances, refrigeration systems, ice machines, steamers, cooktops, ovens, and food processing appliances.
- Troubleshoots HVAC control components to determine design or operational deficiencies; researches and orders OEM/universal replacement parts; repairs or replaces defective equipment, components, or wiring; tests electrical circuits and components for continuity, using electrical test equipment; reassembles and tests equipment following repairs.
- Inspects and tests systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications; discusses heating-cooling system malfunctions with users to isolate problems or verify that malfunctions have been corrected; records and reports all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences; recommends, develops, and performs preventive and general maintenance procedures.
- Lays out and connects electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagrams, using electrician's hand tools; installs auxiliary components to heating-cooling equipment, such as expansion and discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, and stokers.
- Follows blueprints, studies blueprints, design specifications, and manufacturer's recommendations to ascertain the configuration of heating or cooling equipment components and ensures the proper installation of components.
- Installs, connects, and adjusts thermostats, humidistats, and timers.
- Generates work orders.
Physical Qualifications
- Must stand/walk 50% of the work time; sit 50%.
- Must be able to lift/carry 100 pounds and climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and two (2) years' experience trade-specific HVAC-R schooling experience required.
- Must have four years’ experience of HVAC-R and be proficient in electrical schematic reading.
- Must be familiar with commercial cooking kitchen appliances and refrigeration freezers and refrigeration units.
- Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions in English.
