Appliance Mechanic

About the role

Install, service, and repair commercial food-service equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances using hand tools, test equipment, and manufacturer’s specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance following manufacturer’s recommendations; disassemble and reassemble appliance equipment, examine mechanical and electrical parts, adjust pulleys, and lubricate moving parts.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of all assigned facilities, troubleshoot problems, and recommend facility upgrades (40% of time).
• Observe equipment during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts; take readings using power-testing equipment (20% of time).
• Inspect timers, thermostats, switches, pumps, bearings, belts, gears, blowers, and wiring; adjust appliance motors and calibrate equipment as needed (20% of time).
• Provide user training and familiarization on new and existing equipment.
• Replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and wiring.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of appliance mechanic experience or accredited schooling.
• Valid driver’s license and forklift license.

Skills

• Read and interpret manufacturer’s wiring diagrams and specifications.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical commercial food-service equipment (dishwashers, fryers, ovens, slicers, waste pulping systems, mixers, etc.).
• General knowledge of refrigerating equipment (icemakers, chill boxes) and steam operating equipment (dishwashers, kettles).
• Identify repair parts from manufacturer’s technical manuals.
• Effective written and verbal communication with staff, co-workers, and customers.
• Obtain NSGL forklift or scissor-lift license if required.
• Self-starter with strong work ethic.

Physical & sensory demands

• Move throughout all facilities under contract responsibilities.
• Observe functionality of physical assets.
• Lift over 50 lbs., push/pull carts/pallets weighing 200 lbs.
• Good dexterity to operate equipment and handle tools.
• Work in extreme conditions using protective equipment if required.
• Read input data and repair equipment following detailed specifications.
• Climb stairs and ladders.

Pay

$29.76 per hour.
