Appeals Manager (Occupation Health and Safety Manager 1)
About the role
The Appeals Manager oversees the work of professional, technical, and support staff in the Appeals Section. This position is within the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA), responsible for enforcing Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and providing education and consultation.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor the unit's activities including appeals costs, rates, settlement metrics, and other performance indicators.
- Manage and foster external relationships with Oregon OSHA's stakeholders and Federal OSHA staff in the San Francisco Region.
- Oversee the contested case process, including processing appeal requests, scheduling conferences with employers, evaluating rule interpretations, and collaborating with the Department of Justice.
Requirements
- Five years of lead work, supervision, or related experience; OR two years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of Oregon OSHA or federal OSHA rules.
- Experience working with the Department of Justice or Worker’s Compensation Board.
- A commitment to maintaining positive working relationships, respectful workplace practices, and supporting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience in mentoring or developing staff members.
- Proficiency in organizing and communicating effectively.

Pay
The salary range listed is the non-PERS eligible rate. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible after 6 months of employment, the salary range will increase by 6.95% and the required 6% employee retirement contribution will be deducted from your pay.
Schedule
This position is eligible to telework on a part-time basis once the incumbent has gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.
