APP - Trauma
About the role
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Trauma will work closely with orthopedic trauma surgeons to manage patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue trauma. This is a full-time position based at our Plymouth Bass Lake Campus. This role will require Monday - Friday availability with on-call responsibility. Must be flexible to float to other Summit locations as needed. Other primary sites will likely include Eagan, Eden Prairie, Forest Lake, Lakeville, Maple Grove, Vadnais Heights, and Woodbury, MN (subject to change).
Responsibilities
- Works closely with orthopedic trauma surgeons to manage patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and soft tissue trauma.
- Provides care to patients with severe injuries, including patient assessments, coordination of care, discharge and referrals, surgical first assist, post-operative care, and communication with trauma team.
- Tripses patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
- Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
- Conducts physical exams, takes medical history, interprets images, and performs patient evaluations/care.
- Consults with Physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated cases or cases outside the PA's scope of work.
- Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning, skin preparation, administration of local anesthetic, and equipment preparation.
- Functions as a first or second assist in the operating room, including performing surgical exposure, surgical dissections, layer closure of wounds, etc.
- Orders diagnostic tests and scans and prescribes medication.
- Administers injections, participates in suture and dressing removal, and manages simple fracture management/cast application and removal.
- Counsels patients/families on preventative health care, including pre and post-operative education.
- Documents patient information and care in medical records.
- Participates in physician call and rounding schedule rotation.
- Maintains continuity of care by monitoring therapies and providing follow-up care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have a current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota.
- Must have completed a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Must have at least two years of experience in an acute care setting.
- Must have strong clinical skills and knowledge of musculoskeletal conditions.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota.
- Two years of experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Pay
$99,286 to $124,108 per year.
Schedule
Full-time position with Monday - Friday availability and on-call responsibility.
