APP, Neurocritical Services, Full Time, Day
Position Summary
Contributes professional and clinical expertise to ensure the delivery of best-in-class care to hospitalized patients requiring neurological care.
Primary Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive neurologic histories and physical exams on new admissions, consults and deteriorating patients.
- Order and interpret neuroimaging (CT, MRI, EEG) and laboratory testing.
- Prescribe medications, perform procedures, such as lumbar puncture.
- Attend and manage acute stroke codes throughout the hospital, including the ED, including ordering and administering thrombolytic agents.
- Orders and monitors appropriate medications.
- Carefully coordinates the transition to higher level of care as needed.
- Ensures clinical stability for safe transition to post-discharge care or rehabilitation facilities.
- Coordinates treatment plans with physical therapists, occupational therapists, case manager and social work.
- Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates and models service excellence behavior.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Utilizes appropriate and effective patient care plans. Completes documentation concurrently as patients are seen.
- Affirms continuity of care through completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests.
- Delegates clinical tasks appropriate to the level of training of each staff member.
- Provides an accounting of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation.
- Utilizes infection control and safety protocols appropriately.
- Maintains familiarity with practice’s on-site diagnostic procedures and equipment.
- Safeguards continuity of care through completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests.
- Ensures the professional development of self and team, i.e., pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc.
- Participates in the “on-call” schedules as needed. Is available for emergency calls from VMG staff or physicians.
- Identifies opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage of cost savings, employee satisfaction, and/or customer satisfaction. Promotes and practices economical and effective healthcare.
- Completes in a timely manner all managed care applications, credentialing, and re-credentialing requests from the corporate office.
- Abides by guidelines established by all managed care and insurance payors including Medicare.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program as determined by the Committee on Allied Health.
- Current Registered Professional Nurse and Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program/Masters in Nursing.
- Current Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or for Advanced Practice Nurses a current Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
- Valid, current New Jersey license.
- New Jersey CDS and federal DEA certificate upon employment if not already covered.
- If NP, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Inpatient Neurology experience desired.

Salary
Minimum new grad base salary $135,000 K. Salary commensurate with years of experience as an NP/PA.
