APP Internal Medicine: Outpatient Gastroenterology

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Gastroenterology within the Internal Medicine Department, managing health problems and coordinating care in primary, acute, or specialty settings. Delivers patient care and medical services to individuals, families, and groups, assessing health status, diagnosing conditions, developing plans of care, implementing treatments, and evaluating responses in collaboration with a sponsoring physician as outlined in a Collaborative Practice Agreement.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate medical problems of clients in Gastroenterology/Internal Medicine practice settings (e.g., Transplant Hepatology, ambulatory general GI, or inpatient GI services) and request specialty consultations when indicated.
• Provide education to patients and families on preventive care, medical issues, and prescribed treatments or medications.
• Create diagnostically appropriate treatment plans and document all evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations in compliance with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards, and evidence-based care.
• Maintain documentation compliance for accurate coding and billing.
• Facilitate record evaluations by physicians, peers, and quality standards; receive and implement constructive feedback.
• Refer complex or high-priority cases to collaborating physicians for complicated diagnostic or therapeutic issues and chronic condition re-evaluations.
• Provide medical and emergency interventions, prescribe and monitor medications, and order appropriate emergency interventions.
• Maintain collegiality with interdisciplinary team members.
• Utilize chain-of-command to communicate clinical issues to the Program Director, APP Director, and Medical Director, contributing to quality or process improvement as needed.
• Perform professional, clinical, or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department; duties may vary by department or unit.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing for APRNs or Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited program for APRNs.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).
• Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP-BC) – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure – State Board of Nursing.
• Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) – State Board of Healing Arts.
