AP/CP Pathologist

About the role

Fulgent Therapeutics LLC is seeking a Diagnostic Pathologist to join our team. This position is based out of various hospital-based laboratories throughout the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology, frozen section pathology, and/or cytology material and electronic release of cases.
• Participate in laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and hospital infection control.
• Participate in consultation with clients regarding the significance of pathology findings, guidance on the utilization of laboratory technologies to help aid in diagnosis and treatment, and provide client follow-up.
• Examine and interpret prepared tissue sections and body fluids and secretions by using a variety of microscope techniques, including light microscopy, electron microscopy, and fluorescence microscopy.
• Diagnose, from body tissue, fluids, secretions, or other specimens, to identify the presence and stage of disease or other abnormalities, utilizing laboratory techniques and dictate findings.
• Identify the etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of diseases.
• Consult with referring physicians about ordering and interpreting tests or providing treatments.
• Provide diagnostic information to the treating/referring physician in the form of a written pathology report.
• Participate in proficiency testing programs and intradepartmental meetings to establish measures to ensure and improve the accuracy of diagnoses and quality of care.
• Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and seminars to keep abreast of developments in pathology.
• May perform gross examination, dissection, and description of specimens according to procedure.
• May train and educate laboratory personnel and students in the processing of specimens.
• May take photographs of specimens when indicated for patient reports or archival purposes.
• May consult with peers on difficult cases as requested or needed.
• May plan and supervise the work of the pathology staff or visiting pathologists.
• May perform on-call responsibilities.
• Completes annual training programs within the required timeframe and regularly attends staff meetings.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality.
• Complies with all State, Federal, and professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, policies, and procedural manuals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
• Possess an unlimited and unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathy in the state in which the laboratory is located and applicable states in which the laboratory receives specimens or be eligible to obtain licensure.
• Be certified in anatomic or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology or possess qualifications that are equivalent to those required for such certification.
• Minimum of three (3) years of pathology experience in a community hospital setting.
• Subspecialty board certification in cytopathology or gynecologic pathology is preferred.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test.
• Gain/Maintain appropriate medical staff membership and privileges at applicable medical facilities.
