About the role
The AODS Certified Outreach Specialist plays a key role in furthering the Mission's commitment to excellence in service and Christlike compassion. This position supports program objectives, ensures operational integrity, and reflects our values in every interaction with clients, staff, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily outreach in targeted encampments and public spaces to engage unsheltered individuals.
- Build trusting relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches.
- Conduct AODS screenings, assessments, and evaluations to identify substance use concerns and determine appropriate levels of care.
- Develop individualized service plans that address housing stability, recovery goals, behavioral health needs, and community integration.
- Provide substance use education, motivational interviewing, recovery support, and referrals to treatment programs and recovery services.
- Absorb intake assessments to identify individual needs, goals, and barriers to stability.
- Provide case management services including referrals, transportation assistance, and support with navigating public systems.
- Maintain ongoing support for individuals engaged in recovery services.
- Collaborate with outreach coordinator, behavioral health providers, treatment partners, and community partners to align efforts and reduce duplicative services.
- Document outreach activities, AODS assessments, referrals, treatment engagement, and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate in coordinated entry, housing navigation, and multidisciplinary case conferencing efforts as appropriate.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable confidentiality requirements, ethical standards, and certification requirements related to AODS services.
- Support and participate in ministry-wide activities and chapels as applicable.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to uphold trauma-informed practices and ensure client dignity.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years working in a nonprofit, ministry, behavioral health, substance use treatment, or human services environment.
- Experience working with individuals facing homelessness, trauma, mental health challenges, or addiction preferred.
- Experience conducting outreach, case management, housing navigation, or care coordination preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction principles, and community-based resources.
- Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, faith-based environment.
- Strong communication, documentation, and administrative skills.
- Capable of maintaining emotional resilience in challenging client situations.
- Preferred: Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Theology, or a related field.
- Required: Active CADC, CAODC, or CATC certification in good standing, must maintain certification throughout employment.
