AOCI CORRECTION OFFICER

About the role

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking candidates for the position of Correction Officer. This role involves maintaining safety and security within the institution, supervising inmate activities, and enforcing rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas
• Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
• Complete required reports and serve on committees
• Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security
• Necessary: Use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates

Requirements

• Highest high school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license for positions in the transportation section, and/or commercial driver’s license for vehicle operations
• Successfully passed correction officer assessment within the last 24 months, or currently employed with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with prior certification in the correction officer position

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be able to pass a drug screening

Benefits

• Starting salary at step 1: $24.88 per hour
• Salary increases to step 2: $25.61 per hour after 6 months of employment
• Additional .60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shifts
