AOC AppTX Cloud Engineer SME
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking an AOC Application Transformation (AppTX) Senior SME / Cloud Engineer to join our team supporting the Air Operations Center Weapon System (AOC WS) program in Hampton, Virginia.
About the role
The AppTX Senior SME / Cloud Engineer will support the Application Transformation (AppTX) team in migrating and/or integrating legacy AOC WS 10.1 and third-party applications to the cloud using DevSecOps techniques and tools. The role involves applying deep expertise in cloud-native and hybrid cloud architectures, deployment automation, and DevSecOps practices to advance mission capability delivery.
The engineer provides technical leadership and execution oversight within the AppTX engineering and integration team, accountable to the Chief Engineer and Program Manager. Responsibilities include engineering oversight for cloud migration, infrastructure, and application development in an Agile DevSecOps environment, establishing processes and infrastructure enhancements to support continuous delivery, and supporting business development and proposal activities.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain device configuration procedures in accordance with mission requirements and security policies; manage OS updates, monitor and report operational status, resolve issues, and coordinate with vendors and service providers as needed.
- Support cloud capability operations and integration, including integration with technologies such as Kubernetes, ensuring high parity, high availability, and high reliability in all program-managed environments.
- Perform routine maintenance of program-managed environments where cloud capabilities are deployed, including applying all security patches per the Authority to Operate (ATO) conditions.
- Support cloud software architecture and solution development for migration of legacy and third-party DoW weapons system applications to the cloud.
- Lead and direct cross-functional engineering teams during proposal, design, and delivery phases of products in development and production.
- Coordinate with functional departments on staffing, supplier relationships, and technical requirement definition.
- Assist in managing the integration and operations of core services, including Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), ArcGIS, and other services as needed for cloud platform operations.
- Provide technical leadership in architecture definition and trades, requirements analysis, CONOPs, algorithms, interface definition, container orchestration, hardware and software design, procurement, integration, validation, and verification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of related experience, including:
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevSecOps, or systems integration, preferably in a DoD or classified environment.
- 3+ years of direct experience with cloud migration, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent).
- Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance required; TS/SCI eligibility strongly preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Skills
- Demonstrated experience in infrastructure design and engineering, with current knowledge of network and infrastructure technologies including cloud-native architectures and hybrid cloud solutions at IL5/IL6 classification levels.
- Experience with Systems Engineering lifecycle processes, including configuration and change management in a DoD weapon system environment.
- Experience leading multiple development teams to design and build cloud-hosted software systems following Agile methodology.
- Experience leading diverse engineering teams including technical teams, Government, and other contractors.
- Experience developing and delivering program presentations and leading development teams implementing CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency in container orchestration and management using Kubernetes, Istio, and service mesh technologies; Infrastructure as Code (IaC) design and implementation.
- Experience with deployment automation for older, enterprise, and legacy systems with widely variable technologies; ability to adapt deployment, hosting, and management strategies for third-party applications where source code access is limited or unavailable.
- Experience supporting DevSecOps security procedures including fuzz testing, vulnerability testing, penetration testing, and misuse/abuse testing; security engineering analysis for baseline releases and accreditation support.
- Familiarity with cloud environment scale for large DoD C2 programs; experience planning and supporting large-scale, multi-site enterprise deployments requiring high-compute, high-storage infrastructure configurations across CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- Familiarity with Cloud Architectures and deployment requirements for U.S. DoD, including IL5 and IL6 cloud environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud, C2S).
- Experience developing cloud architecture technical solutions, authoring proposal volumes, or supporting competitive capture activities for large-scale DoD programs is highly desired.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate-level degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Direct experience supporting DoD cloud modernization programs, application transformation initiatives, or C2 system-of-systems integration efforts.
- Experience operating in Agile/Scrum sprint environments on DoD programs; familiarity with CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance in classified environments.
- Experience supporting competitive proposal development, technical solution narratives, oral presentations, or business development activities for large-scale DoD programs.

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $147,292 - $199,278. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements.
