Salary: $2,845 - $3,330 (dependent upon verifiable past paid coaching experience)

About the Role

This position works under the direction of the Head Coach in providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The role values and promotes the worth of each participant while effectively leading players and staff to achieve their individual and collective potential. Work is performed under the direction of the Head Coach, Principal, and Athletic Director.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 19 years (per WIAA assistant-coach requirement)
  • Must complete SafeSchools and WIAA Final Forms training prior to the beginning of the season
  • Must pass a background check
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Card
  • Must be current with WIAA coaching clock hours
  • Must be able to pass a screening test to provide transportation for student-athletes if necessary
  • Regular and punctual attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Previous coaching experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with and promote the core values of the school’s Athletic Program
  • Serve as a positive role model for students
  • Assist the head coach in planning, organizing, and delivering an appropriate range of sports activities and programs for the team
  • Assist the head coach at all practices and games
  • Assist with sports promotion and development
  • Work to be an effective team member
  • Assist with game day preparation
  • Ensure that student-athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior
  • Ensure continual supervision of student-athletes on the court, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms
  • Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities
  • Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal
  • Learn techniques, skills, philosophy, rules, and strategies
  • Participate in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, and award nights
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, talk, hear, and occasionally walk and sit
  • Occasional bending or twisting at the neck more than the average person
  • May occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs
  • Directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people
  • Requires travel
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff

Work Environment

  • Noise level: moderate to loud
  • Work predominantly in athletic rooms, gyms, and outside on athletic fields
  • Temperature: normal climate, occasional adverse weather conditions
  • Travels to other school districts as required
