About the role

The Animal Services Operations Manager oversees and directs the operations and personnel of the Shelter operations division, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Counsels, disciplines, and completes employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Assists the Animal Services Director to plan, direct, and supervise the operations and personnel of the Shelter operations division.
  • Affords assistance to the Animal Services Director in planning, directing, and supervising the operations and personnel of the Shelter operations division.
  • Maintains shelter records and inventory.
  • Maintains animal health, evaluates behavior, monitors capacity, while working with the Animal Services Director and Veterinarian for health issues and capacity issues.
  • Administers “managed intake” program for Owner release animals.
  • Works with Management staff to identify and implement long-range programs and regularly review policies and procedures.
  • Works with fosters, volunteers and management to coordinate the foster program, train volunteers, and increase volunteer opportunities.
  • Responds to citizen concerns about animals under care.
  • Conducts euthanasia of animals for injured, medical or behavior.
  • Operates county owned motor vehicle to attend adoption events, transport animals, and/or assist with onsite locations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree.
  • Three (3) years of Supervisory related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and Supervisor experience in an animal shelter, clinic, or kennel.
