Animal Services Officer I

About the role

The Animal Services Officer plays a crucial role in Cobb County, ensuring the health and well-being of the community's pets and wildlife. They are a vital member of the Department of Public Safety, connecting with the public and enforcing animal-related laws and ordinances.

Responsibilities

• Daily, thorough cleaning of all animal areas, including inside/outside runs, cat areas, floors, dishes, and bedding.
• Feeding the animals, including providing special diets as needed.
• Making sure the animals are healthy by monitoring their health and reporting any issues.
• Performing medical treatments and euthanasia as needed.
• Assisting with adoptions by providing excellent customer service.
• Patrolling the County and enforcing animal-related laws and ordinances.
• Responding to reports concerning various animal issues, such as animal bites, potential animal cruelty and abuse, animals in distress, stray and nuisance animals, barking dogs, wild and dangerous animals, sick and injured animals, animal behavior problems, or animal control laws.
• Handling, lifting, and carrying animals, including those that may be frightened, fractious, or injured.
• Answering questions concerning responsibility of pet ownership, laws and ordinances, pet adoption, and other department issues.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift and carry animals weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Physical stamina and ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.
• Good communication skills, especially in dealing with the public and enforcing laws.

Qualifications

• Experience in animal care or related field.
• Customer service experience is preferred.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
• Knowledge of animal care and control laws.
• Basic computer skills.

Pay

Paid vacation leave, holidays, sick leave, military leave, parental leave, and bereavement leave are provided according to service years.

Schedule

Rotating 12-hour shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
