Animal Scientist (Cedar Rapids, NE)

About the role

Work with senior leadership to develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control of pigs, sows, or gilts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems
• Advise senior leadership about improved products and techniques that could enhance swine health quality and production
• Engage in assessment of animal health conditions
• Participate in administration of treatment and vaccines
• Oversee selection and movement of all animals marked or moved
• Enter data regarding such assessments using a PDA or computer
• May engage in active participation in gruel feeding, mat feeding, and handfeeding
• Document sow and gilt activity on each sow card
• Participate in estrus detection of sows and gilts and insemination of sows and gilts
• Assess animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, engineering, or an animal-based agriculture-related field (foreign equivalent accepted)
