Animal Health Laboratory Worker

Under the direction of a supervisory official within the New Jersey Racing Commission, performs drug test sampling or collects blood, urine, and other samples for prohibited medications and substances. Assists regulatory veterinarians with preparing for race day, maintaining vet's lists, maintaining medical records pertaining to veterinary inspections, monitoring certain treatments performed by private practitioners, ensuring compliance with NJRC regulations, and performing other related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood, urine, and other samples from horses for drug testing
• Pack and ship samples
• Assist veterinarians with race day preparation
• Maintain computer-based medical records
• Monitor treatments performed by private practitioners
• Ensure compliance with NJRC regulations

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree with fifteen (15) credit hours concentration in Animal Science or related field
• One (1) year of laboratory examination, analysis, and testing experience
• Proficient in blood, urine, and other sample collection from horses
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license
• Statewide travel between office locations required

Schedule

• Weekdays: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Weekends: Friday & Saturday 5:00 PM – 1:00 AM
• Hours may vary in accordance with racing schedules and operational needs
• Non-traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required on short notice
• Overtime opportunities may be available, subject to operational needs and approval
