Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and build animal enrichment devices
- Interact with keeper staff and observe species behaviors
- Utilize the current system for enrichment item approval
- Construct items meeting all safety standards
- Document and observe the use of enrichment items
- Make modifications to enrichment items as necessary
- Assist in maintaining monthly enrichment calendars
- Deliver educational interpretation to the public about animal enrichment
- Complete various quizzes, trainings, projects, and a final reflection paper
Requirements
- Second Year College Student or recent graduate (2 years or less)
- 3.0 or above accumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale preferred
- TB test required upon starting
- General interest in animal behavior and willingness to work around exotics
- Demonstrated ability in the use of power tools and basic construction
- Basic computer knowledge preferred (Word, Excel, Internet explorer)
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work
- Ability to balance multiple assignments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Neat appearance and courteous behavior
- Ability to work cooperatively with all Zoo team members
- Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including safety protocols
- Ability to provide excellent guest service
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Subject to BMV check
- Subject to Criminal Background check
